JUST A CHANCE!

               CHAPTER    FIVE!
            CAUGHT IN THE ACT!

My  parents gallantly dressed, walked majestically to the high table, just opposite me. Our eyes met and I froze! They pretended not to notice me, smiling and exchanging pleasantries. The party was still ongoing.
"Teny, I'm in a whole lot of trouble"
"Are you okay? What trouble at this beautiful time? He asked absentmindedly.
             " My parents are......"
"Your parents aren't coming, I know. Is that a problem" he interrupted.
"Gosh! Teny, that's not the point " I shrieked
"Yeah, I know. Why don't you feel free and let bygone be bygone huh! Stop being a baby here"
"Teny, can you just listen to me"
"Well, I am, but if it has to do with the story concerning your parents then I'll have to block my two ears with anything I can find".
                "But, it's about my parents"
"Game over, I don't wanna hear anymore"

He said and left the table to only who knows where. I felt like disappearing into the thin air. Teny came back about three minutes later and sat down like a robot, GAN! Anytime he does that, I just know that something is up.
"Dave, you got to be kidding me"
What is he talking about now, I just wonder what he's up to, I thought.
"You actually invited your parents. I just recognized them when I went to greet. Gosh! That was awesome. Tell me, how did you do it?
I dropped my head the moment he mentioned my parents. It then struck him, what I was talking about earlier.
"Wait a minute, no no no, this isn't good at all. I think I understand what happened. I think this stuff is already making you go crazy, you're in a big mess".
"That was exactly what I was trying to tell you, big head. Instead you were behaving like a dumb doll!
"I'm sorry. But I could help. What do you have in mind?
                   "Teny, right now I'm blank"

Teny took a glass cup and with a spoon, started  making this silly sound. Everyone stopped and looked towards our direction. I almost fainted, buh that goodness I'm a man!
"Well, I wanna make an announcement. There has been a little  misunderstanding and I wanna clarify that and make sure it's been taken care of. My best friend, David has been just so quiet and sad for the past few minutes or so, due to the fact that his parents might punish him because he's present at this party but without formal permission. I want you all to help me plead with our Chief guest on the behalf of my best friend Dave, their son"

This guy got to be kidding me, I thought. What sort of silly thing was that. I was really ashamed of myself at that moment, wishing I had wings.
Surprisingly, everyone did as he said. I was really flabbergasted. My dad took the microphone and spoke.
"Well, I wouldn't reject such proposal most especially when it's coming from my host. So with this, I can say he's pardoned".

You could imagine the thunderous clap from the guests. I felt my spirit uplifting once more. I heaved a big sigh of relief and smiled. The party continued.
We got home later in the night and everyone retired to their rooms because we were all exhausted.
The next morning during breakfast, Dad told me what I was never expecting.
Dad said he knew all about the party before I did. He got to know that Teny's dad was the one hosting the party when Teny came over to our house sometime before. Also said that he had seen the invitation card when it dropped from one of my books in the library. He also added that he had discussed with my mom on whether they should let me go or not. According to him, my mom disagreed and said that I'll only be allowed to step out of the house if I tell them about it (mom and her ideologies). Dad said he only let me because of my best friend, Teny.
Well, all these doesn't matter anymore to me since I eventually made it to the party. Dad knew everything I was planning but he kept mute. I was actually caught in the act.
Next time, I just know I won't go scot free! Thanks to Teny anyway. He saved the day, that doesn't make him my Spiderman though.
