VOICES UNHEARD

CHAPTER THREE

Rachel got home a little earlier after being dropped at the house by Alison's mom.

"Rachel, come early tomorrow and no dodging." Alison reminded jokingly as she waved goodbye.

Rachel smiled, then walked slowly into the house feeling tired. She was glad no one was home at the time, at least, she had a few moments to herself before the house would get full again.

She shoved her bag aside and sat down on the bed, sighing loudly. She looked around the small but tidy room which was hers alone and shook her head slowly.

The incident that had happened recently came flashing back to memory that she couldn't help but break down in tears. She wondered why death would take a good man out of her life and now she was back to square one, not knowing where her school fees would come from.

Coming back to reality, she dried her tears with the back of her palm, holding back the tears from coming down her cheeks alongside some sniffles.

She had to freshen up so she could go join her mother in her food store. That was her daily routine, except on Sundays when they stayed back at home after Sunday school service to rest and prepare for the week.

She undressed, took her uniform to the bathroom which was a door from the room and washed it quickly. After that, she decided to take a quick shower, so she could dress up quickly and not get her mother annoyed for joining her late.

After bathing, her towel round her chest and just a little beneath her thigh, she proceeded to sorting out her clothes.

Just then, she noticed that someone had stepped into the room, so she turned around swiftly and froze in fear as her eyes locked with the person just across the room.

"I uhm, I didn't know you were around." She said , shivering slightly. I..I..I didn't see you when I got back." She stammered, clutching the cloth she held close to her chest.

"Easy now, easy now." He said staring at her body seductively. "You've been dodging me lately I noticed, have I done something wrong? He asked, sarcastically.

Rachel shuddered as he walked closer towards her. "Please, don't come close to me. I haven't been avoiding you, I just don't want to get into trouble sir, please."

He laughed casually. "I'm not a fool honey, I know you have, it's obvious, you don't have to cover it up." He chuckled, tracing her hand with his fingers.

"Please stop please. Just leave me alone. I said I'm not interested, please." Rachel pleaded, now sobbing and sniffling at the same time.

"You said you wanted your school fees, or do you wish to be driven out of school now huh? He asked, not in concern, laughing hysterically.

Rachel nodded in affirmation. "Yes I still want my school fees and I'll find a way to get it, but not with your help."

That statement got him angry that he pushed her to the bed and pounced on her. Rachel shocked at what had happened struggled as much as she could to push him off her, while screaming at the top of her voice.

He gagged her with his right palm, then tried using the other to loosen the towel off her chest. Rachel held on to the towel like it was her life, making it difficult for him to get through.

Coincidentally, the kids got home from school as their voices from outside was as loud as a cricket, so it was easy to know. As soon as Rachel heard their voices, she thanked God deeply in her heart.

He left her immediately and hurried out of the room so he wouldn't be seen. Rachel got up from the bed, got dressed and hurried out of the house as soon as she could.
